Canada is my favorite fishing spot. I take two trips a year to Red Lake Ontario Canada for a fly-in fishing trip. I've been going on these trips for 13 years now.

Back from Dolphin

Well, we arrived back from Dolphin lake about 2 weeks ago. The trip was a success but the weather was very cold. This is the first year in quite a while that i'm not planning on going up to Canada twice"at least not as of yet". I think the most memorable moments from this trip were the top water frenzy we had on Thursday night. We were casting poppers into the shallow weeds and the pike were on fire. Mark and Tom are heading to Orono in August. Hopefully they have a successful trip and the weather isn't as cold this time.

I keep remembering how excited Chewp was when we informed him that we had a 50/50 chance on the plane ride. I have 3 and a half weeks til my trip. I'm so tempted to start packing all my stuff up, but I wonder if it is still too early. I doubt that I will do any fishing between now and the trip. I think instead of packing i'm just going to head to Dick's sporting goods and buy a new rain suit. The minnow catching is all done, and without having that to pass the time the next few weeks is gonna go really slow. I wish i could fall asleep and wake up on September 10th!

More minnows

Chewp and I decided that we are gonna go back on the minnow hunt tonight. We have over 2000 now, but we are just having too much fun catching them. Tonight will be the first night that Chewp is gonna wade the river with me. Hopefully we will have another big night like last night. Luke and I caught 633 minnows while wading the creek. Chewp was in attendance doing the videography. I'll check back in later and update the totals from tonight.

Minnow frenzy

Luke, Chewp, and myself have been on the hunt for minnows to take on our trip to Canada. We have found a nice little stream out in the country. We use our casting nets and have been averaging about 100-200 minnows per trip. I think we are hoping to get around 2000 minnows for Canada. We put them in freezer bags with salt and freeze them. It took quite a while to get the hang of throwing the casting net, but I think we all have it down now. I'm sure there are plenty of hungry pike and walleye at Orono just waiting to bite on these lovely little minnows.

5 weeks is TOO LONG!

I have 5 weeks left til my trip to Red Lake. We will be fishing a lake called Orono. This will be the first time we've fished this late in the year up in Canada. This summer has been hell at work and the trip can't get here fast enough. We always go to Viking Outposts based out of Red Lake Ontario. They are good people and the lakes are fantastic fishing. Orono lake is an awesome pike lake. We have always caught a few 40" pike in the 4 of 5 years that we have fished this lake. Is it September yet???
